Football formation builder online

Create a starting shape, test player spacing and change positions freely with a simple online football formation builder.

Build more than a formation graphic

A formation is only a starting reference. A 4-3-3 can become a 3-2-5 in possession, a 4-1-4-1 while pressing, or a compact 4-5-1 without the ball. Because every magnet can be moved freely, this builder lets you show those changes rather than locking the team into fixed slots.

Popular football formations to try

4-3-3

Use one goalkeeper, a back four, three midfielders and three forwards. Adjust the midfield into a single pivot or a double pivot depending on the role of the number six.

4-2-3-1

Place two deeper midfielders behind a number ten, with wide attackers supporting one striker. It is a useful starting point for showing pressing lines and central overloads.

3-5-2

Use three centre-backs, wing-backs for width, three central midfielders and two forwards. Move the wing-backs higher to turn the shape into a 3-3-4 during attacks.

4-4-2

A classic two-bank structure that is easy to use when explaining compact defending, wide pressing triggers and two-striker counter attacks.

Formation planning for coaches and fans

The board can be used to plan a youth-team lineup, explain a Sunday league match plan, discuss professional tactics or simply imagine how different players would fit together. Add name tags to turn the magnets into a specific starting eleven.

Try it on the board

Move both teams, edit player numbers and names, add the ball, and reset whenever you want. No account is required.
